Marco Fabbro - Environmental Sculptor and Designer

Marco Fabbro has formal qualifications in the environmental sciences and has studied fine arts in Italy. In 1992, he made representations and formal recommendations to a Federal Government Standing committee investigating the potential impacts of global warming. He attempted to gain a balance between exploring a creative connection with the environment ( particularly the ocean foreshores) and a rational understanding of nature and the impacts man is having upon it. Soon after he began studding at Julian Ashton Art School. He has since designed, developed and commercially applied a uniquely Australian environmentally themed craft works and decorative lighting concepts.

He has formulated and applied several creative environmental education and interpretation projects on the North Coast NSW during the early 1990’s. By creating one-off decorative lighting elements he has used light and natural elements to bring focus to environmental processes.

He has exhibited in Italy and Hong Kong and has represented Australia at the International Sculpture Symposium held in Canada in 2002. He has produced and directed public inter-art collaborations with community based performing and projection artists in cooperation with local government.

Works have responded to the locale in respect of, attractive environmental character, intrinsic natural beauty, cultural connections and recreational pursuits while maintaining classic artistic principles. His focus has been on estuarine habitats, coastal foreshores, beaches and Sydney harbour.

His works have responded to and are suggestive of contemporary and historical issues of peace and conflict. Religious symbolism has been used extensively in his work to portray the notion of turmoil in uncertain times, conflict resolution and of esoteric harmony.

Through collaborations with contemporary dancers and other visual artists he has interpreted and creatively expressed deep connections with the ocean, surf experience, landscape and indigenous spiritual identification with the land.

Through Marine Geo Pty Ltd, (establish in 1991) he has designed, project managed and marketed several residential feature landscaping and commercial lighting projects. Currently, he continues to undertake commissioned environmental sculpture work and ornamental / architectural lighting design projects.
