FEDERAL SEAT OF WENTWORTH CANDIDATE GEORGE NEWHOUSE HONORS ARTISTS PEACE INITIATIVE
Waverley Mayor George Newhouse opened the Togetherness-Art for Humanity. Association Exhibition at Bondi Community Centre Pavilion on Wednesday night.
“I know there are a lot of politicians that enjoy dividing and conquering - even here in Australia. There is a lack of compassion for not only people from other countries, but also for our indigenous
populations."
"People such as these at Togetherness – Art for Humanity who are
prepared to commit themselves to others or to peace and tolerance and
kindness are people who need to be elevated in our community. I think
Waverley Council honors those people in our community at the grass roots
level who are doing just that. Please honor the commitment the
organizers of this exhibition are making to tolerance and peace. This is
a very important message being sent to our greater community” He said.
The organization founder Violeta Dineva said that an exhibit will be
held in NSW Parliament house in 2008 and that the association has the
full support of the Sydney Council. However, organizers have received no
funding from any government to date.
“Governments spend billions of taxpayers money on war bit do little to
honor the aspirations of may Australians for more initiatives promoting
the ideal of peace and tolerance. This imbalance is being addressed by
us. We have yet to receive a cent for our exhibit and performances “
Sculptor Marco Fabbro said at the opening.
Fire artists Nick and Sophie and Eve Robinson teacher at Dance Central
in Surry Hills performed in and around the huge podium titled the
Millennial Peace Sculpture. 15 Artists have their works on view in the
Gallery and The Millennial Peace Sculpture will be on Exhibition on the
forecourt of the Pavilion until 20th May with free performances planned
on the week ends .

As the ‘dove of peace’ symbol is an important image in the work, the Millennial Wave Sculpture is being taken on a ‘peace initiative’ where by members of the public are given the opportunity to express their sentiments for peace by signing the work.
While the communities response has so far been very positive with over 1800 signatures having being made by people visiting from all over the world,The work also
functions as a
podium which is available
for performing artists who wish to express the idea of harmony
creatively.
