FEDERAL SEAT OF WENTWORTH  CANDIDATE GEORGE NEWHOUSE HONORS ARTISTS PEACE INITIATIVE

Waverley Mayor George Newhouse opened the Togetherness-Art for Humanity. Association Exhibition at Bondi Community Centre Pavilion on Wednesday night.

“I know there are a lot of politicians that enjoy dividing and conquering - even here in Australia. There is a lack of compassion for not only people from other countries, but also for our indigenous

populations."

"People such as these at Togetherness – Art for Humanity who are

prepared to commit themselves to others or to peace and tolerance and

kindness are people who need to be elevated in our community. I think

Waverley Council honors those people in our community at the grass roots

level who are doing just that. Please honor the commitment the

organizers of this exhibition are making to tolerance and peace. This is

a very important message being sent to our greater community” He said.

The organization founder Violeta Dineva said that an exhibit will be

held in NSW Parliament house in 2008 and that the association has the

full support of the Sydney Council. However, organizers have received no

funding from any government to date.

“Governments spend billions of taxpayers money on war bit do little to

honor the aspirations of may Australians for more initiatives promoting

the ideal of peace and tolerance. This imbalance is being addressed by

us. We have yet to receive a cent for our exhibit and performances “

Sculptor Marco Fabbro said at the opening.

Fire artists Nick and Sophie and Eve Robinson teacher at Dance Central

in Surry Hills performed in and around the huge podium titled the

Millennial Peace Sculpture. 15 Artists have their works on view in the

Gallery and The Millennial Peace Sculpture will be on Exhibition on the

forecourt of the Pavilion until 20th May with free performances planned

on the week ends .

ART AND PEACE

Marco Fabbro has been    selected to participate as an
Australian artist at the
Florence Biennale,  Italy.

The United Nations recognizes the Florence Biennale as an official partner in the program "Dialogue Among Nations".

Kofi Annan's statement:

"Artists have a special role to play in the global struggle for peace. At their best, artists speak not only to people; they speak for them. Art is a weapon against ignorance and hatred and an agent of public awareness… Art opens new doors for learning, understanding, and peace among people and nations."

As the ‘dove of peace’ symbol is an important image in the work,  the Millennial Wave Sculpture is being taken on a ‘peace initiative’ where by members of the public are given the opportunity to express their sentiments for peace by signing the work.

While the communities response has so far been very positive with over 1800 signatures having being made by people visiting from all over the world,

The work also functions  as a podium which is  available  for performing  artists who wish to express the idea of harmony creatively.
