A Millennial  Sculpture

for

Sydney Waterfront.

Sydney Sculptor, Mark Fabbro, has carved a work of art displaying exceptional  dynamic and balance. The sculpture is a 3 metre high symphony of curves and flow.

The Millennial Wave Memorial (MWM), exhibits conceptual and design aspects which suit the contemporary cultural, built and natural setting of Sydney in the following respects:

  • The design of the sculpture, based on the circle and curve, is complementary to buildings and structures which comprise of circular plan or display curved architectural and engineering features. The Sydney Harbour Bridge and Australia Square are such structures.

  • The work represents the choppy back and forth  behaviour of  boat  wake and wind waves on the  surface of the harbour water.
  • The work, being of water/wave theme, constitutes a work of art inspired by the experience of generally clean and warm estuaries, maritime waters, and surf, such as are characteristic of Sydney.  These natural attributes constitute   the 'playground' for the contemporary culture of popular recreational pursuits.

  • The work conceptualise the change in status of the foreshores of Sydney harbour and the coastline of Australia that has occurred at the end of the 20 Century .

The robust characteristic and timeless quality of the MWM will ensure that for many years from the year 2000, its integrity  will endure.
